The field guide
How to play.
The rules are simple. The situation is not.
1. Fill six kit slots
Pack one weapon or tool, one transport option, one morale item and three food stashes. Each offer contains three items. Their numbers are fictional game ratings; their benefits and drawbacks explain the trade-offs.
2. Choose, or take another spin
Each slot gets an initial offer and two rerolls. Rerolling replaces the current choices, so you cannot return to an earlier offer. Items can reappear by chance. Your next offer stays hidden.
Locking an item is permanent for that run. You can inspect your packed kit, but you cannot replace a selection. The same food can turn up in more than one food slot. Starting a completely new kit resets everything.
3. Press Survive
Once all six slots are full, the game reveals one of five randomly selected disasters. The disaster is chosen independently of your kit and stays hidden while you pack. Andy starts with modest shelter and a limited clean-water reserve.
4. Follow the journal
Andy automatically rests or scavenges as supplies dwindle. His equipment affects movement, carrying space, useful finds, encounters, protection and morale. Food and water run out; batteries go flat; noisy equipment can draw attention.
Pause the journal, adjust its speed, press Next day to move on immediately, or press Skip to end. Skipping reveals the same outcome; it does not give Andy a different roll of the dice.
5. Complete all 14 days
The large score shows the day Andy reached. The result also states how many full days he completed. An attempt ending during day 14 has completed 13 days and does not count as a win. Completing the whole of day 14 does.
Good decisions improve the odds, but survival remains deliberately difficult. You can copy your result or download a survival card, then try a new kit.
A note on food and realism
Each food card represents a small stash, not a single tin. “Food-days” are abstract game allowances. Several items need scavenging support to last the full challenge. Fray Bentos pies require an oven and cooking energy. This is fictional entertainment, not real survival guidance.
